I guess the black background indicates crude oil and the purple flower is actually a Gem ,indicating the value which crude oil generates. This value is created by Statoil. So we have all we need, crude oil (black background), value of the natural resources (using a symbol i.e. Gem) and the name “Statoil” as the value creator.

I like the golden-section og link to drilling in this logo its logical and obvious.
But the design it self is nothing to talk about. It totally do not fall in my taste…
and especially after finding the logo of Photosynth by Microsoft http://photosynth.net/

Jeg har ingen designer bakgrunn. Ved å sørfe på denne siden, trodde jeg at jeg skulle finne noen fornuftige og inteligente kommentarer.

Et par av kommentarer synes jeg var ok, jeg, ut i fra deres saklig argumentasjon. Resten av kommentarene må komme fra designere som er så misunnelig at det renner av dem.

I strongly dislike the logo and as a shareholder wish that Statoil would focus more on their business and less on their business cards.

The logo is a knock-off (www.husflid.no) and not worth a penny. I hope someone gets fired for this disaster!

I think the rebranding is a part of a strategy to implement more sympathic and humanist (feminine?) values into the brand in a time where the companys future contains some very controvercial business areas: oilsand (canada), arctic drilling, Lofoten + some activity in unpopular regimes, Nigeria, Iran etc.

So from Statoils point of view, a cute visual platform may be a sensible investment instead of a traditional roughneck oilrig-profile.

Oh. nicely put Mathias. I also think SDG has put a great deal of energy (pun intended.) into the logo, and that they will explain their choices when the time is right. I do understand the critics though…

StatoilHydro’s new logo is to be incorporated in all of the company’s designs as of November 1st 2009. The total cost of the profile change is approximately 23 million EUR. The gas stations logos won’t be changed.

The new logo resembles a a turbine, a drill bit or a windmill. It can also be associated with the selbu rose.

Many Norwegian design experts are highly critical to the new logo. “It is too feminine, it looks like an advertisement for a spa center ro a logo for a jewelry shop.”

But it’s drawing attention, and therefore people notice the new logo. It’s also the only energy company in the world that have purple in their logo, that makes their identity even more unique.

I’ve heard some of the reasons for why NDG made the logo the way they did, and I must say it seams like they have realy put an effort in to this and done a good job. They whill probably tell more about why they did it the way they did when they think people have bacome angry enough and the logo have got enough attention and awareness.
