“The results of an extensive exploration with shadows, the One Day Poem Pavilion demonstrates the poetic, transitory, site-sensitive and time-based nature of light and shadow.
Using a complex array of perforations, the pavilion’s surface allows light to pass through creating shifting patterns, which–during specific times of the year–transform into the legible text of a poem. The specific arrangements of the perforations reveal different shadow-poems according to the solar calendar: a theme of new-life during the summer solstice, a reflection on the passing of time at the period of the winter solstice. The time-based nature of the poem–and the visitor’s time-based encounters with it–allow viewers to have different experiences either seeing a stanza of the poem or getting the whole poem. All of these possible experiences are equally valuable and have meanings unique to the individual. This technique has the potential for producing particular effects and meanings within an architectural environment. Without the use of a source of power other than the sun, this project uses light and shadow to push the boundaries of communication and experiential delight.”

Today we have been at the museum and played with stencil printing.

Since the last time I was skiing in Vangsåsa, the old WC signs been destroyed and replaced with nice drawings. :-)

I was in the museum of science. Excited to see the new exhibition. Sad to report they have replaced FF Din with ComicSans. Why I do not know :-(

Found this old picture from back in the good old days at the Oslo National College of the Arts. This is the very nice and cozy “kitchen” in the hallway outside the classrooms in the visual communication department. Nicely decorated with lovely large letters.

There is an ongoing discussion about what HelloTypo shoud do on KFs payday beer. Where some believe we should dress up as The Village People. It’s been done before folks! check this out :-). CMYK was the official anthem for the Typeradio Typo Berlin 2006. Since typedesingers are not rock stars, there are no pictures :-(

Luke Lucas have made a typographic title treatment  for an article in the latest edition of Lifelounge Magazine – The Dirty Edition on swingers in America’s bible belt.

Slippery and hot. Lifelounge Magazine has not only cool typo inside their mag, oh no, their covers are also sweet bites for your eyes. I recommend that you check check check them out and bookmark the site or subscribe to the magazine.. Here is some samples:

I realized that maybe not everyone had heard of this site, and so I decided to share it here. I find myself using it all the time and tend to think everyone else does the same. Anyway; Copy Paste Character is a really handy utility-site that contains all those characters you sometimes find yourself needing but aren’t always that accessible, and enables you to simply click one of the symbols and it’s copied into your clipboard. Simply paste it, and voilà! This site should save you some tedious searching in the glyphs panel or memorizing long ASCII-codes when in need of those more elusive characters. Hope you find it useful!

FontShop is celebrating 20 years of delivering sweet, sweet digital fonts. It started with floppy disks, packed with the Spiekermann brothers font design, in 1989. Here is a really fun statistic site (yes, it is fun!) they have put together. Not only stats, but fun facts and more historical treats.
