helloVARSKO! is history. The event was so smooth. People enjoyed the day from A to Z. VARSKO!, Kreativt Forum Trondheim and Grafill Trøndelag, helped us to unfold an amazing happening. Two great and inspiring talks from one of our favorite sweeds Robert Lindström from North Kingdom and Spanish designers Alex Trochut & Marta Cerdà.

Alex on how he made the font Neo Deco. Marta and Alex actually did they first ever talk together as a team at helloVARSKO! We recommend their talk to anyone, everywhere. People came up to us and said they was so inspired they had to run home to draw asap.

Both the swede and the spanish couple got a small present from us. A book by Norwegian photographer Rune Johansen, and a pair of jeans from local jeans brand Johnny Love.

After the talks, the movie and the barbecue, The Last Ninja played to an exited audience. Click here to see video.

Amazing Margaret Berger played with a full band. Super sweet. People danced till they spilled their beer on each other. Lovely.

The helloVARSKO! posters have landed. Ah, beautiful. What a line up! It´s designed by the magical CMNCTN. The backside is designed by the spanish wonder Alex Trochut for helloVARSKO! The poster is printed at Fagtrykk and the very cool people at Arctic Paper is responseble for the lovely paper.

Holy Cow! Interactive Art Director and Co-founder of North Kingdom, Robert Lindstöm, aka Designchapel, is coming to helloVARSKO!.

We understand that you are shocked *the sound of jaws hitting the ground*. If your jaw did not hit the floor, it´s probably because you haven´t heard about North Kingdom or Designchapel. Well, you are in for a treat. Robert and the North Kingdom guys are one of the most innovating dudes around. For the second time the last three years, they are on the 2010 Creative 50 list. It’s a list where Ad Age and Creativity celebrate the year’s most inspiring thinkers and innovators (other people on that list: Lady Gaga, Daniel Ek, Michael Lebowitz and Spike Jonze and a 45 others…

In 2004 North Kingdom created Vodafone Future which became the worlds most awarded website that year. They have won a pile of shiny awards at the Cannes Cyber Lions, a couple of D&AD awards, gold here, gold there. Gold everywhere. Siggi Eggertsson is speaking at Visuelt dagene in Oslo tomorrow. If you are in the area, be there or be *drawing a square in the air*  (like Uma in Pulp Fiction did). He also updatet his site a few weeks ago. Loads of typography and other beautifulness. Check check check it out. Below you can see a rejected magazine cover he made. (why they rejected this I don´t know. Stupid.)

One of my favorite Norwegian designers Robin Snasen Rengård has made loads of sweet stuff. And this Rumble in Rhodos cd is filled to the rim with sweetness. Playful but tight. Love it. I urge you to check out his site. ASAP.

Calligraffiti is a combination of calligraphy and graffiti. It is also a sweet site filled with nice typography and images that will get both graffiti artist and calligraphic people to wet their pants. The man with the plan is Niels Shoe Meulman. He also just released the Calligraffiti book (buy it here) . I, for one, am putting that book on my wish list for christmas (Hi mom).

I first saw this lovely poster on Norwegian designer Tuva Thorsø private blog. I instantly fell in love with the poster. I had to Google a bit before I found a bigger picture and the source. The poster was made by graphic designer Nicole Lavelle From San Francisco. My hat goes of to her. Nice work indeed.

Found this sweet site via ILT. Typenuts is a site with a bunch of free iPhone and Desktop wallpapers for you to download. And if you are a designer with the love of type, you can send your design to the makers, and perhaps your design will be among the sweetness.

Ah, what a sweet site. A site dedicated to old Citroen 2cv brochures. I wish it was summer and the year was 1963, and everyone was buzzing around in a 2cv. That would be groovy. Right Magnus?

Sometimes I wonder if other people are as passionate about typography as we at HelloTypo™ are. The answer is always: YES. Just a little trip around on the Google roller coster, and you can find all kind of screwed up type nerds with all sorts of weird ideas. I like it.

Came across this collective whom creates lovely crafted typework. Quoted from their site: “The ill-studio is a French group of collaborators devoted to fine arts. Our goal is to bring ten individuals together, working in various artistic areas such as graphic design, photography, typography, illustration, video, motion design, etc.”

A clever gentleman from Milan named Matteo Gualandris have made a magazine called “Science Fiction Typography”. It contains an analytical story of typographic used in America’s most popular science fiction magazines published between 1930 and 1970. The main focus is on cover headlines. To make the magazine look old and used Matteo had it stuffed down in his back pocket for days.

Found these marvelous Letraset type samples from circa 1980, by Christof Gassner, on one of my favourite blogs Burlesque. I´ve nicked three of the pics, but to see all click your way to the source.

Oslo based Ole Fredrik Ekern is a design student at Westerdals School of Communication . He have made a super sweet font (Gami) by folding paper. It works both in 3D and as vector. Nicely done.

Mats Ottdal went one year above me in school at RMIT Communication Design, Melbourne. He is now working in NYC at Stag&Here. I remember his graduate folio, and I’m delighted to see more of his recent type driven work.

Autobahn is an dutch design agency with a love for type. Autobahn designs special graphical projects, often with an illustrative and typographical angle. I really like the way they play with type in this particular project (glad I´m not themodel). The project I´m talking about is called Arts In Area Development.

“Arts In Area Development is a collaboration between artists and area developers. Together they are looking for a way to provide a place for art in areas yet to be developed. Will the implantation of art and culture into area development projects increase the quality of the development plans? What possibilities will there be for the artists? And will there arise involvement with the future area residents?”

My friend and artist Bjørn Kowalski Hansen (one of the co-founders of the legendary t-shirt brand and art project Håkki™ (check out the super cheesy and fun intro on this site) ) has some sweet art projects going on. Luke Lucas have made a typographic title treatment  for an article in the latest edition of Lifelounge Magazine – The Dirty Edition on swingers in America’s bible belt.

Slippery and hot. Lifelounge Magazine has not only cool typo inside their mag, oh no, their covers are also sweet bites for your eyes. I recommend that you check check check them out and bookmark the site or subscribe to the magazine.. Here is some samples:

New release from Hoefler & Frere-Jones. Vitesse is as H&FJ say a slab serif for the 21st century. Read the story behind Vitesse, see the different styles, and take it for a test drive here.

I took Vitesse for a spin, I highly recommend it.

Our friend (and fellow type club member) Stian W. Bugten and his buddy Simon P. Egli has worked on a font the for a while now. We blogged about the project some time ago, but things have happened since then.

I got a sweet mail the other day. From Jonathan Calugi of Happy Lovers Town. With a free typeface download. We’ve got some great names contributing on the VARSKO! wishes starting 1st of december here in Trondheim. A great projected christmas calendar on Vår Frue Kirke (Old historic church in Trondheim). We can’t wait to see the results of artists like Alex Trochut, Si Scott, Chris Rubino, Are Kleivan, Jens K Styve and many more. Here’s just a taste of the work Alex Trochut are making.

FontShop is celebrating 20 years of delivering sweet, sweet digital fonts. It started with floppy disks, packed with the Spiekermann brothers font design, in 1989. Here is a really fun statistic site (yes, it is fun!) they have put together. Not only stats, but fun facts and more historical treats.

One of my favourites, Parra has made the titling for this sweet little invitation. Ahh… nice with some friday eye candy ;D

Two good friends from my study time in Melbourne, swede Henrik and aussie Matt collaborates on the project Hank & Matlok. They have a distinct style of their work, and fill out each other. Always with a sense of humour and unpretentiousness. All hand drawn type :-) Check out their work! Here is a small interview with them.

Melkeveien made a really bautiful typeface for SDG and their client Statoil. Yes, it´s for the same profile as the much talked about redesigned logo… (Statoil and SDG is presenting the new profile at faglig frokost 9. desember at DogA (Oslo) ) I like the typeface. Good work Melkeveien!
